Christmas Card Etiquette
Articles written by Etiquette Expert Rebecca Black: The Polite One
When it comes to sending out your Christmas cards, there may be more etiquette involved
than you think. To make sure you get it right this year, take a look at these simple
guidelines...
Firstly, you will want to think about who you are sending your Christmas
cards to. If you are planning to send the same design to everyone, then pick something
fairly generic, and avoid risqué jokes which may not be appreciated by everyone on
your mailing list. Be aware than many people feel that an e-card is bad etiquette,
and although you may be able to get away with it when with for some friends and colleagues,
many people (especially older generations) will expect to receive a card in the mail.
In addition, it is important to remember that not everyone celebrates Christmas.
Whilst most people are still happy to receive a card, if you know that a particular
family celebrate another festival, such as Kwanzaa or Hanukah, then it can be best
to send them a card accordingly.
It is also a good idea to handwrite your cards,
and personalize them slightly when possible. That needn't mean you should fill every
card with details of what you've been up to that year, what you're cooking for Christmas
dinner, and which piece of 77diamonds jewelry you've bought your other half as a
Christmas present. It can be enough to simply enquire after the health of the person
to whom you are writing, or state that you're hoping to catch up with them in the
new year. This will make it seem as though more thought has gone in to sending out
your card then simply working your way through a list of recipients.
You should also
make sure that you send your cards out in plenty of time to arrive for Christmas
day. After all, many people like to display their greetings cards around their home
during the Christmas period. Bear in mind that any cards which you are sending abroad
will take a little longer to arrive, and make sure you are organized enough to send
them all out in good time.
